They’re Not All The Same

A credit line is defined as a specified amount of unsecured credit that is given to a business or an individual to use as needed. A credit line can be in several forms, the most common being a credit card or an equity credit line, and they are typically paid back in installments when you use any of the credit.

A credit line in the form of a credit card is the most recognizable type of credit line. Credit cards can be carried from place to place and used to purchase anything with. You will then get a statement at the end of each month describing your transactions and giving you a payment that must be paid. The payment is typically much lower than the amount you spent and the interest that was added on to the amount you spent.

You can pay more than the minimum monthly payment on a credit card without penalty. This is advisable, too, because often when your balance is high the minimum payment is mostly interest and very little principal. Making minimum payments will not allow you to get the credit card paid off, but if you make a little more than minimum you can get it paid off much more quickly.

A credit line from your bank or financial institution that is called an equity credit line is more like a bank loan that you are able to use when you need it. This loan is against the equity in your home. Some banks say that they are unsecured lines of credit while others will tell you that the equity in your home is the security used for the loan. You will get better interest
With an equity credit line such as this you will usually be given checks that you are able to write making purchases. These checks are used just the same as your checking account checks and the amount you write them for comes off of your credit line, reducing it until you pay that amount back. Like a credit card, an equity credit line is typically an ongoing credit line that can be reused as needed and paid in installments, depending on how you have it set up with your banking institution.

If you need a credit line, check into both of these types of credit lines to see which onerates with a loan that is secured in most cases.
gives you the best interest rate, the amount of credit you need, and which one works best to fit your needs.
